“SIMPLICITY IS THE ULTIMATE SOPHISTICATION.”   -LEONARDO DA VINCI

When my Grandfather passed away in Mayville at the start of Winter 2004, my family set about making a casket for him. We wanted to honor him through the efforts of our own hands.

Measuring. Cutting. Scraping. Sanding. Ironing. Sewing.

Our family spent nearly twenty hours together in the three days that followed--we shared moments. The experience was healing. I was so inspired that I set about designing a casket kit so that other families might participate in a similar activity. This Simple Pine Box kit is the result of more than 20 prototypes in 4 years. Assembling a casket affords the hands, heart, and mind the means to be involved in the death of a loved one.

Healing. Sharing. Engaging. Participating.

This casket kit comes complete with all wooden parts pre-cut. No cutting. Kit includes Casket Kit Assembly Instructions, screws, and a spacer. The parts are smooth, but sanding is one of those tasks that is never finished. The kit assembles in 1-2 hours. Extra hands make for light work. Keep the natural pine as is, or finish with oil, varnish, paint, or any creative method that inspires you.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS.

"Northwoods Caskets are beautifully made. I work hard to help families understand how they are Wisconsin made, and by purchasing Northwoods caskets they are supporting local families that are working to consider the environment in everything they do, ending up with a really nice product. It is a win for everyone. Better for the environment, really nice casket and supporting Wisconsin business and families." by Saether Funeral Home, Blanchardville, Wisconsin
